My Favorite Roger: Anath White

"Last Tango in Paris"

Why do I choose this review of Roger's?

This groundbreaking film has been on my top ten since its 1972 release. Being a feminist, I remain fascinated by Roger's Russ Meyer connection and how, as Chaz describes it, "Roger was a breast man." His writing on sex was provocative fun guaranteed. Especially for any Midwesterner in that time (I'm one, too), this was stepping out there, even (quoting the era's musical, "Hair") "letting one's freak flag fly."

His review of "Last Tango" gets deep inside that still astonishing Bertolucci creation.
